Israeli Supreme Court Judge Noam Solberg Urges Integrity and Unity Ahead of Tisha B'Av and Elections

On the eve of Tisha B'Av, Israeli Supreme Court Deputy President and Chair of the Central Elections Committee for the 26th Knesset, Judge Noam Solberg, issued a special letter addressed to judges, regional election committee heads, and members and staff of the Central and regional election committees. Solberg emphasized the solemnity of Tisha B'Av as a time for reflection on the heavy price paid due to division and hatred, while also highlighting the resilience of the Jewish people in rebuilding a democratic Jewish state that serves all its citizens.

Referencing President Isaac Herzog's remarks from the previous evening, Solberg noted that elections are more than a contest of opinions and parties; they test Israeli society's ability to engage in sharp disputes without fracturing mutual belonging and responsibility. He described elections as the pinnacle of democracy and a profound expression of practical Zionism, embodying citizens' sovereignty, shared responsibility for the country's future, and faith in shaping national life together.

Solberg underscored the Central Elections Committee's paramount national mission to ensure every citizen's vote is heard, counted, and preserved equally, stressing that no vote is more or less important than another. He invoked the biblical verse from Zechariah, "Truth and peace have embraced," explaining that truth requires uncompromising adherence to election integrity, professionalism, accuracy, and fairness, while peace demands respectful treatment of all, restraint, responsibility, and maintaining public trust in democratic institutions.

Looking ahead to the upcoming election period, Solberg warned of the need for great effort, resilience against pressures, and vigilance against attempts to undermine the electoral process. He affirmed that strength lies in statesmanship, independent judgment, teamwork, and loyalty to the law and the public. He concluded with a clear declaration that all involved serve the State of Israel and all its citizens, not any political camp, party, or position.
