Phishing Scam Impersonates Israel Post Using Moroccan Phone Numbers

A new wave of phishing messages pretending to be from Israel Post is currently circulating in Israel. These fraudulent texts are sent from phone numbers with the Moroccan international dialing code (+212). The scam messages typically claim that a package is awaiting delivery or that additional payment is required to release a shipment. They include links to fake websites designed to steal personal and credit card information from recipients.

This impersonation tactic has become increasingly common among cybercriminals in recent years, exploiting the fact that millions of Israelis order products online and expect package delivery notifications. Phishing is an internet fraud method where attackers pose as trusted entities like postal services or banks to trick individuals into revealing sensitive data or downloading malware.

To avoid falling victim, recipients are advised not to click on links in SMS or email messages but instead to check package status directly on Israel Post's official websites. Warning signs include messages from unfamiliar numbers, spelling or phrasing errors, demands for credit card details, or urgent calls to action. Israel Post emphasizes that official communications only direct users to their legitimate domains: postil.co.il and israelpost.co.il. Any deviation from these URLs may indicate a phishing attempt.
