Former Maccabi Tel Aviv Player Doron Perkins Becomes Head Coach in Chinese Basketball League

Doron Perkins, known for his time as a player and assistant coach at Maccabi Tel Aviv, has taken a major step in his coaching career by being appointed head coach of the Guangzhou Long-Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). The 43-year-old began his coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets staff before joining Maccabi Tel Aviv's coaching team in 2021, where he served until 2023. He then moved to the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As a player, Perkins was a key figure for Maccabi Tel Aviv between 2009 and 2011, averaging 9.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in his second season in the EuroLeague. His playing career was notably impacted by a severe injury sustained during the playoff series against Caja Laboral (now Baskonia). This new role marks Perkins' first position as a head coach, highlighting a significant advancement in his professional journey.
