Former Maccabi Tel Aviv Player Doron Perkins Becomes Head Coach in Chinese Basketball League

Doron Perkins, former Maccabi Tel Aviv player and assistant coach, has taken a major step in his coaching career by being appointed head coach of the Guangzhou Long Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Perkins, 43, began his coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets staff before joining Maccabi Tel Aviv's coaching team in 2021, where he served until 2023. He then moved to the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a player, Perkins was a key figure for Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2009 to 2011, averaging 9.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in his second season in the EuroLeague. His playing career was interrupted by a severe injury during the playoff series against Caja Laboral (now Baskonia). This new role marks Perkins' first position as a head coach, representing a significant advancement in his professional trajectory.
