Itamar Ben Gvir Demands Immediate Dismissal of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara for Next Government

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir issued a sharp ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanding the immediate removal of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara as a precondition for the Religious Zionist Party's participation in the next government. This demand follows Baharav-Miara's recent petition to the Supreme Court calling for Ben Gvir's dismissal, accusing him of violating agreements with her.

In a detailed letter to Netanyahu, Ben Gvir recounted his early warnings about Baharav-Miara's alleged biased and unprofessional conduct against the current government since its inception. He accused her of systematically opposing government policies, attempting to undermine key appointments such as those of Shin Bet and Mossad chiefs, and even trying to initiate investigations and legal actions against him without proper basis.

Ben Gvir also alleged that Baharav-Miara used the Police Investigations Department (Mahash) to fabricate cases against senior officials and government ministers. He described her actions as unprecedented and criminal, particularly highlighting her attempt to remove an elected official with over half a million votes through a Supreme Court petition without investigation or indictment.

He concluded by stating that the Religious Zionist Party will not join the next government unless Baharav-Miara is immediately replaced by an attorney general who supports the government's agenda rather than obstructing it. This ultimatum comes amid ongoing tensions between Ben Gvir and Baharav-Miara, reflecting deep divisions within Israel's political and legal establishment ahead of the 2026 elections.
