Itamar Ben Gvir Demands Dismissal of Attorney General as Condition for Otzma Yehudit Joining Government

Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of National Security and leader of the Otzma Yehudit party, sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday stating that the dismissal of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara is a prerequisite for his party to join the next government. Ben Gvir recalled that he had already requested Baharav-Miara's removal early in the current government's term, accusing her of acting "hostilely against the elected government and with glaring unprofessionalism." He noted that Netanyahu initially responded by saying, "I am a young minister" and that "things do not work that way."

In the letter, Ben Gvir accused Baharav-Miara of continuing to obstruct government policy, blocking appointments the government sought to advance, and supporting efforts to remove him from his ministerial post through a petition to the Supreme Court. He demanded that upon the formation of the next government, Baharav-Miara be immediately replaced by an attorney general who does not rebel against the elected leadership and instead helps implement government policy.

Additionally, Ben Gvir called for the establishment of a criminal investigative committee to examine the actions of Baharav-Miara and her staff. He emphasized that without meeting these demands, Otzma Yehudit will not join the government coalition.
