Jerusalem Police Prepare Road Closures and Security for Tisha B'Av Observances

The Jerusalem Police have finalized their preparations for the Tisha B'Av events on July 22 and 23, 2026, focusing on the Old City, Western Wall, and other holy sites. Hundreds of officers, Border Police fighters, and volunteers will be deployed to maintain public safety, order, and freedom of worship. Both visible and undercover units, along with technological tools and special units, will be active to facilitate prayers, manage traffic, and respond to any unusual incidents.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 22, a march titled "Women for Israel's Future" will take place from Independence Park to the Dung Gate. Starting at 8:30 PM, streets including Gershon Agron, King Solomon, Paratroopers, Sultan Suleiman, Jericho Road, Derech HaOfel, and Ma'ale HaShalom will be intermittently closed and reopened in coordination with the march's progress.

On Thursday, July 23, during the dawn prayer hours from 4:30 AM to 9:00 AM, Derech HaOfel and Ma'ale HaShalom will be closed to traffic. Leading up to the end of the fast, from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Sultan Suleiman Street, Jericho Road, Derech HaOfel, and Ma'ale HaShalom will be closed intermittently. Public transportation to the Western Wall will operate normally throughout the fast day.

Police urge drivers to follow officers' instructions, use alternative routes, and rely on navigation apps for travel planning. The public is also asked to act responsibly, avoid violence, provocations, and disturbances, and report any suspicious or security concerns to emergency number 100.
