Israeli Border Police Arrest 15 Illegal West Bank Residents on Jerusalem Bus Ahead of Tisha B'Av
As part of heightened security preparations for the Tisha B'Av events in Jerusalem, Israeli Border Police forces arrested 15 illegal residents from the West Bank found on a bus in the city on Sunday morning. The operation was conducted by the Metilan unit of the Jerusalem Border Police, who carried out targeted searches across the city and identified the suspicious bus. Upon inspection, the 15 individuals were discovered to be residing in Israel without valid permits and were taken for further police processing.
This arrest is part of a broader enforcement campaign by Border Police units nationwide aimed at preventing illegal entry and activity by unauthorized residents. Over the past week alone, approximately 380 illegal residents and around 50 suspects aiding their transport, lodging, or employment have been detained. These efforts are led by Border Police Commander Brigadier General Yitzhak Barak and include dismantling smuggling networks that use sophisticated concealment methods such as hidden compartments in vehicles.
The intensified enforcement in Jerusalem includes increased deployment of police and Border Police forces throughout the city, focusing on main traffic routes and checkpoints. Authorities continue to conduct focused vehicle inspections and act on intelligence to detect and arrest illegal residents. The police emphasized their ongoing commitment to preventing illegal infiltration and prosecuting those who assist in such activities, especially during sensitive periods like Tisha B'Av, to maintain public security.
