Hundreds of Yeshiva Students Attend Preparation Events in Jerusalem Ahead of New Academic Year

Hundreds of yeshiva students gathered in Jerusalem for two preparation and inspiration events organized by the Levaker Beheichalo organization in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality. Held at the Sukkot David hall, these events aimed to strengthen the students spiritually as they transition to higher levels of yeshiva study and prepare for the upcoming Elul study period. The gatherings featured leading rabbis and yeshiva heads who offered guidance and encouragement at a pivotal moment in the students' spiritual development.

The main event focused on students moving from smaller to larger yeshivas, with Rabbi Shmuel Betzalel, head of Porat Yosef Yeshiva, delivering a keynote speech emphasizing the significance of this transition. He described it as a critical stage in shaping a Torah scholar’s character, requiring spiritual independence, responsibility for study routines, and a deep connection with mentors. Other prominent rabbis, including Rabbi Yosef Chaim Suissa and Rabbi Yosef Rokach, stressed that success depends more on perseverance and discipline than innate talent.

A unique panel discussion featured Rabbi Chanoch Cohen, Rabbi Yosef Lasri, and Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, who addressed practical challenges such as establishing stable daily schedules, overcoming study difficulties, and the importance of community support. Rabbi Tuvia Polak also provided practical advice. Students were tested interactively, demonstrating their year-long efforts.

The second event targeted eighth-grade students entering yeshiva for the first time, with rabbis urging them to embrace the sacred responsibility of yeshiva life and to build a strong foundation for their Torah learning. Throughout both events, the rabbis highlighted the special role of yeshiva students as the "Levi tribe" of the Jewish people, tasked with carrying the torch of Torah amid contemporary challenges.

Deputy Mayor Tzvika Cohen praised the events, calling the transition to yeshiva a decisive moment and emphasizing Jerusalem’s duty to support these students. The events concluded with students committing to complete the current tractate by the next year and receiving prestigious gift packages in recognition of their dedication. The gatherings ended on a note of spiritual awakening and renewed commitment to Torah study and responsibility.
