Reserve Captain Yoel Asher Dies at 53 After Medical Complications

Reserve Captain Yoel Asher, 53, passed away on Monday night at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer due to complications from a medical procedure. Asher, originally from Switzerland and a resident of Netanya, served as an officer in the identification and burial unit of the Military Rabbinate. He was actively involved in the identification efforts of casualties during the recent "Iron Swords" operation and the aftermath of the October 7 attack while serving in active reserve duty at Camp Shura.

In February, Asher was in the news after being attacked by extremists while entering Hagai Street in Bnei Brak with his vehicle and religious attire, an incident that drew widespread condemnation. He is survived by his wife, three married children, and grandchildren. His funeral will take place today at 5:00 PM, starting from the Vizhnitz study hall on Avraham Shapira Street 12 in Netanya and proceeding to the Veterans' Neighborhood Cemetery in the city for burial.
