Likud MK Moshe Saada Says Primaries May Be Canceled Due to Iran Tensions

Likud Member of Knesset Moshe Saada indicated that the party's upcoming primaries could be canceled if tensions with Iran escalate. He explained that the party's constitutional committee has decided that in such a scenario, a special organizing committee would select the Knesset list instead. Saada emphasized that while no one desires a conflict in August, Israel faces a complex security situation, with a high likelihood of an incident involving Iran this week. He noted signs of Iranian military activity and concerns about potential spillover into Israel, although Iran currently appears deterred.

Regarding the Likud list composition, Saada said Prime Minister Netanyahu received reserved spots on the list, allowing him to shape it as he wishes. He acknowledged that many candidates would feel disappointed by the organizing committee's decisions, contrasting this with the primaries where over 145,000 Likud members vote. Saada expressed confidence that the party base seeks ideological and professional representatives who fight for them, which he believes will secure him a high position on the list. He predicted significant change in the primaries, with voters favoring such candidates.
