Yeshiva Or Shmuel Honors Late Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky with Emotional Tribute

The students and faculty of Yeshiva Or Shmuel in Jerusalem, led by Rabbi Nachshon Schiller, warmly welcomed Rabbi Dan Segal, the yeshiva's mashgiach, who delivered a heartfelt lecture in memory of their late rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky zt"l. Rabbi Segal recalled the leadership style of Rabbi Rozovsky, urging students to follow the path of the 'head of all yeshivas.' He emphasized that Rabbi Rozovsky's eulogy is truly a "call to life," highlighting the great spiritual elevation found in learning from him about the love and toil of Torah study. Rabbi Segal noted how Rabbi Rozovsky could repeatedly teach the same lesson with fresh vitality and depth.

Rabbi Segal expressed, "I am neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I do not know what would have happened without him. If Rabbi Shmuel had not been, who knows where the Torah world would stand today, and God forbid, Torah might have been forgotten in Israel." Rabbi Nachshon Schiller stressed the necessity of refining one's character traits to become a vessel fit for Torah. He quoted Rabbi Rozovsky, who taught that "derech eretz (proper conduct) precedes Torah," meaning that without proper character, Torah cannot truly be absorbed. Rabbi Schiller further cited Rabbeinu Yonah and the Chassid Yaavetz, who emphasized that Torah dwells only in a person with good traits, and that a "good heart" is the key for Torah to reside within a person.
