Construction Begins on Third Metro Depot in Mesubim for Tel Aviv’s M3 Line

Construction has started on the Mesubim depot, the third maintenance and operations facility for the M3 metro line in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The depot will cover approximately 350 dunams and is part of a larger project with an estimated investment of around 3 billion shekels. It is scheduled to open in 2037 alongside the launch of the M3 line.

The initial phase involves land development, earthworks, infrastructure relocation, paving, and retaining wall construction to prepare the site for further building. Subsequent stages will include the construction of maintenance garages, service tracks, washing facilities, and control and operations systems. This depot joins two others already under development: the Rishonim depot in Rishon Lezion for the M1 line and the Segula depot in Petah Tikva for the M2 line.

The M3 line is a semi-circular metro route spanning about 39 kilometers with 25 stations across 10 municipalities, connecting Bat Yam in the south to Herzliya in the north, including a dedicated branch to Ben Gurion Airport. It is expected to serve approximately 480,000 passengers daily, linking key residential, employment, and healthcare hubs such as Ramat Hahayal, Kiryat Aryeh, Sheba Medical Center, and Beilinson Hospital. The line will integrate with the other metro lines, light rail, and Israel Railways to form a unified mass transit system.

Leah Shmuel, Deputy CEO of the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Mass Transit System (NTA) and M3 line manager, described the start of work at the Mesubim depot as a significant milestone that brings the project closer to providing residents with a genuine alternative to private car travel. She emphasized the goal of building a fast, comfortable, and reliable transportation network that will transform metropolitan mobility.
