Windows Fast Startup Feature Can Cause Issues, Here’s How to Disable It
Windows includes a feature called Fast Startup designed to reduce boot time after shutdown by saving part of the operating system state to a temporary file, similar to a hybrid between shutdown and sleep mode. However, this feature can cause problems in daily use, such as loading the system with the same faulty state if a prior error occurred. It may also interfere with installing system updates and drivers that require a full clean reboot, and can sometimes cause the computer to wake up unexpectedly due to power settings and timers.
Fast Startup can save significant time on older computers with mechanical hard drives, but on modern machines with fast SSDs, the boot time difference is minimal. In such cases, disabling Fast Startup can improve system stability. To turn off Fast Startup in Windows 11, users should go to Control Panel, select "Hardware and Sound," then "Power Options," click "Choose what the power buttons do," and uncheck the Fast Startup option.
