Israeli Prison Authorities Thwart Drug Smuggling Attempt into Ela Prison

Israeli prison authorities recently uncovered and prevented a drug smuggling operation targeting Ela Prison. Over the past months, the Prison Service's Central Unit (YAMAR) conducted a covert investigation using an undercover agent from their agents' division. The operation began after an inmate attempted to smuggle drugs into the facility by contacting the undercover agent and offering to bring narcotics in exchange for payment.

During the investigation, the agent received suspected cannabis from a resident of Ashkelon and later obtained payment from the inmate. Last week, a coordinated operation between the Prison Service and the Israel Police led to the arrest of the inmate inside Ela Prison by YAMAR detectives and the simultaneous arrest of a civilian in Beitar Illit suspected of involvement in the drug transfer.

Both suspects were transferred to the Prison Service's police investigation unit for further questioning. The Prison Service emphasized its commitment to using all intelligence, investigative, and operational capabilities to prevent contraband from entering correctional facilities, dismantle criminal networks, and maintain prison security and governance.
