Two inmates at Ela Prison have been accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the facility using the prison’s trash compactor, with a package secretly attached to a wall nearby. Prison investigators acted on intelligence about the plan and uncovered the drugs, leading to an indictment.
According to the report, the two men carried out an initial trash delivery to the compactor, and later in the afternoon made another run. During that second trip, Abu Ayesh found an empty tin can in the garbage, reached for the hidden drug package, tore it off the wall, placed it in the can and threw it into the trash bin he was carrying.
He then walked away, presenting himself as if he had just finished a routine work task. But prison detectives from the Israel Prison Service searched the area after receiving advance intelligence about the scheme and found the concealed package.
When the package was opened, officers found about 11 grams of methamphetamine and 110 buprenorphine tablets. The amount was described as exceeding what is permitted for personal use.
