Israeli Navy Crew Revisits Missile Ship That Fought Hezbollah 20 Years Ago
Twenty years after the missile ship INS Haruv first set sail following the abduction of Israeli soldiers at the northern border, the vessel and its crew remain dedicated to their mission against Hezbollah. Although the crew members have changed over the years, the ship continues to operate in the same northern waters, maintaining its role in defending Israel and striking Lebanese terror targets.
The INS Haruv was among the first naval vessels to respond in 2006, firing thousands of shells at coastal targets and playing a central role in the Israeli Navy's offensive during the Second Lebanon War. A particularly memorable and somber moment for the crew was when the sister ship, INS Hanit, was hit by a Hezbollah missile.
During a recent Channel 14 broadcast, current and former crew members reunited aboard the ship, sharing stories from the intense conflict and recalling moments of camaraderie amid the hardships. Despite technological advancements and improved capabilities over two decades, the ship's core mission remains unchanged: to protect Israel from threats emanating from the sea and to counter Hezbollah's aggression.
