Back in the Top Division: Maccabi Ashdod Wins 94-83
Maccabi Ashdod earned a major achievement on Thursday night, returning to the top division after a 94-83 win over Ironi Nahariya that gave Dan Katzir’s team a 3-1 victory in the National League playoff final series.
It was the club’s second straight promotion for the Yellow team from the port city, a notable accomplishment in Israeli basketball, especially given that it operated on a much smaller budget than its rivals. In the end, aside from Rehovot, the two teams that were promoted did not change coaches.
Once again, the home side’s standout was Robert Turner, the American finished with 29 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Amit Ben-David led the Northerners with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists, but the visitors could not force a fifth game in the series.
As a reminder, Maccabi Ashdod played in the Israeli Premier League for 10 consecutive seasons, from the 2010/2011 season until it was relegated to the National League at the end of the 2019/2020 season.
