Israeli Activists Demand IDF Stop Holding Events at Messianic Jewish Venue in Jerusalem
The Israeli activist group Yad L'Achim has formally demanded that the IDF Chief of Staff immediately cease all military events held at the Pavilion hall in Jerusalem, a venue owned by the controversial Messianic Jewish community known as "Messianic Jews." This demand follows reports that the IDF's 607th Battalion recently held a unit conference at the site.
Yad L'Achim's letter to the Chief of Staff highlights that the Pavilion is not a typical event hall but a place regularly used for Christian worship and missionary activities aimed at converting Jews. The organization argues that the IDF's use of the hall violates previous commitments not to hold events there and causes direct harm to religious soldiers, particularly those who observe Jewish law forbidding entry into Christian places of worship.
The letter stresses that holding IDF events at the Pavilion financially supports and legitimizes missionary efforts, which Yad L'Achim describes as a "systematic and malicious" campaign against Jewish faith. The group also sent a copy of the letter to the IDF's Chief Rabbi, emphasizing the conflict this situation creates for religious soldiers who must choose between attending unit events and adhering to their faith.
Yad L'Achim calls on the military to act urgently to end all cooperation with venues affiliated with missionary organizations, underscoring the broader concern for the spiritual integrity of the Jewish people in Israel. The organization condemns the IDF's inadvertent role in providing income and honor to groups seeking to convert Jews.
The IDF has yet to respond publicly to the demand, and the issue highlights ongoing tensions between religious sensitivities and military activities in Israel.
