Mother Rescues Two-Month-Old Locked in Hot Car in Harrowing Incident
Sharon Levitan experienced every parent's nightmare when her two-month-old daughter, Alma, was accidentally locked inside a hot car. Sharon had placed Alma, along with her bag and phone, into the vehicle, but moments after closing the door, it locked automatically, trapping the infant inside. Security camera footage captured Sharon's panic as she realized her daughter was stuck and helpless attempts by her and neighbors to open the door.
Sharon described the terrifying moments in an interview with "HaOlam HaBoker," recalling how Alma appeared to be dripping with sweat and turning red from the heat inside the car. The situation was worsened because the car had locked even before Alma was fully inside, as indicated by the folded side mirrors seen in the video. Sharon quickly sought help and called the police, while neighbors gathered around trying unsuccessfully to unlock the vehicle.
The wait for emergency responders felt agonizing, lasting about ten minutes until United Hatzalah and Yedidim volunteers arrived alongside police officers. The rescue teams promptly worked to break into the car and successfully freed Alma, ending the ordeal safely. Despite the positive outcome, Sharon remains deeply affected by the trauma and has since become much more cautious, describing how entering a car now triggers intense worry and careful consideration every time.
This incident highlights the dangers of automatic car locking systems and the critical importance of quick response in child lockout emergencies, especially in hot weather conditions.
