Iran Increases Political Executions Amid Regional Tensions and International Talks

The American human rights news agency HRANA reported that over 6,000 protesters against the Iranian regime have been confirmed dead, with an additional 17,000 deaths under investigation. The Iranian government has officially acknowledged more than 3,000 deaths but accuses the protesters of being part of an organized conspiracy led by Israel. While engaging in discussions with the United States, Iran has reportedly intensified executions of political prisoners, according to human rights organizations speaking to CNN.

Mahmoud Amiri-Moghaddam, director of the International Human Rights organization, told CNN that the Iranian regime views the international community's focus on war as an opportunity to carry out executions that would normally provoke global condemnation and political costs. Iranian dissident Niki Nikbakht, residing in Germany, explained that the Islamic Republic never admits to having political opponents or prisoners, instead labeling politically active individuals as dangerous criminals to justify death sentences and instill fear in society.

Iran claims all prisoners receive fair trials, but Nikbakht stated that her brother and others are held without trial for months. Amiri-Moghaddam added that political prisoners executed in the past three months were sentenced based on confessions extracted under torture, subjected to prolonged isolation, denied fair legal processes, and lacked access to lawyers of their choice.
