Gofman Appoints New Deputy: "Served at the Core of the Mossad's Operational Work"
Mossad chief Roman Gofman appointed A. today, Thursday, as his deputy and head of the Operations Directorate. The appointment was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A. is expected to take up his new post immediately.
In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, it was noted that "A. served in a variety of roles at the core of the organization's operational activity." It was also said that he "brings with him knowledge, experience and a deep familiarity with Mossad operations."
Earlier this week, Gofman dismissed his previous deputy, A., who had been Dadi Barnea's leading candidate to replace him. He served in the role for about four months and was part of the plan to topple the regime in Iran. In the Prime Minister's Office statement regarding the deputy's dismissal, it was said that "the Mossad chief wished to express his deep appreciation to A. for 22 years of operational service in the Mossad and for his significant contribution to the security of the State of Israel."
"During his service, A. operated at the heart of the organization's operational work in three operational divisions, commanded two of them and led a series of groundbreaking operations. For his achievements, he was awarded five Israel Security Prizes. A. wished the Mossad chief great success in his role and made clear that he would continue to offer his experience and abilities to the Mossad and the State of Israel as needed."
