Volkswagen Unveils Electric ID. Cross Compact SUV With Enhanced Range and Features
Volkswagen has introduced the ID. Cross, an all-electric compact SUV positioned as a sibling to the T-Cross but based on the ID. Polo electric platform. The new model features larger dimensions than the T-Cross, improved interior quality, and offers up to 211 horsepower with a driving range of up to 427 kilometers. Despite recent workforce reductions, Volkswagen continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, following the ID. Polo and the electric GTI variant.
The ID. Cross is now available for pre-order in Germany, while its potential launch in Israel remains uncertain according to Champion Motors, Volkswagen's local importer. The vehicle's exterior design maintains some familiar T-Cross elements, such as a black upper grille and connected daytime running lights, but introduces a more modern and rugged look with 3D LED rear lights and a larger plastic bumper. It is slightly longer, wider, and taller than the T-Cross, with a longer wheelbase and increased cargo capacity, including a 475-liter rear trunk and an additional 25-liter front trunk.
Inside, the cabin draws heavily from the ID. Polo, featuring vertical air vents, upgraded materials, enhanced noise insulation, and a clean dashboard design with physical buttons for climate control and media functions. The ID. Cross offers a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, 360-degree cameras, and advanced parking assistance including remote parking via an app. Higher trims include panoramic roofs, heated and electrically adjustable seats with massage functions, heated steering wheels, and premium Harman Kardon audio systems.
The electric powertrain options include three front-wheel-drive variants built on the MEB+ platform. The base model delivers 116 horsepower with a 37 kWh battery and a 317 km range, accelerating to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. The mid-level version offers 135 horsepower with the same battery but a slightly shorter range of 306 km and a 9.8-second sprint. The top-tier model produces 211 horsepower, powered by a 52 kWh battery, achieving 472 km of range and accelerating to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. Fast charging capabilities range from 88 kW to 105 kW, enabling 10% to 80% charging in about 23-24 minutes. The highest trim also supports a 1,200 kg towing capacity and introduces optional adaptive suspension.
Volkswagen's ID. Cross aims to blend the practicality of a compact SUV with the benefits of electric mobility, targeting customers seeking a modern, spacious, and technologically advanced vehicle in the growing electric segment.
