Panathinaikos Pursues Facundo Campazzo in Major EuroLeague Move
Panathinaikos is intensifying its efforts to sign Facundo Campazzo, the Argentine point guard currently with Real Madrid, aiming for a significant transfer in the EuroLeague. According to Greek outlet Sport 24, the club is actively exploring the market for a high-level point guard and is prepared to make a substantial financial offer to secure Campazzo's services. Campazzo is under contract with Real Madrid until summer 2028, meaning any transfer would require Madrid's approval, likely involving a large transfer fee.
This is not Panathinaikos' first attempt to acquire Campazzo; in 2023, when he returned to Europe, the Greek club made a lucrative offer, but he chose to rejoin Real Madrid after a brief stint with Crvena Zvezda. Campazzo is regarded as one of Europe's top point guards over the past decade, having averaged 12 points and 5.1 assists in 24.5 minutes per game last EuroLeague season.
Panathinaikos is coming off a disappointing season without a Greek championship and a poor European campaign. The club has since parted ways with coach Argin Ataman and appointed Željko Obradović. It has also made several significant signings this summer, including Gershon Yabusele, Isaac Bonga, Branko Bađio, and Mostafa Fall, signaling a strong push to rebuild and compete at the highest level in Europe.
