Hapoel Tel Aviv Signs Kadin Carrington Amid Tensions With Hapoel Jerusalem

Amid a turbulent summer in Israeli basketball, Hapoel Tel Aviv secured the signing of guard Kadin Carrington, who previously played several successful seasons with Hapoel Jerusalem. The interest from Tel Aviv began months earlier but only materialized this summer after contract terms were finalized.

The turning point came on January 31 during the State Cup quarterfinals at Menora Mivtachim Arena, when Hapoel Tel Aviv's coach Ofer Yanai was ejected from the game while sitting near the Hapoel Jerusalem bench. Yanai felt humiliated by the incident and deeply disappointed by the lack of support from Hapoel Jerusalem officials, including owner Matan Adelson and staff members Dan Shamir and Yonatan Alon. He described the event as "criminal" and refused to shake Adelson's hand after the game.

In response, Yanai contacted Carrington's agent, Dan Kartin, urging him not to finalize any contract before Tel Aviv could present an offer. This move was both a strategic acquisition and a statement against the rival club. Hapoel Jerusalem had offered Carrington a contract worth about half of Tel Aviv's proposal, estimated at just over one million dollars per season.

Additionally, Yanai and coach Dimitris Itoudis challenged Carrington's status as a naturalized player in the league, a tactic believed to distract Hapoel Jerusalem and obscure Tel Aviv's plans. With the signing complete, Carrington is expected to receive playing time in the EuroLeague, with Itoudis expressing confidence in his abilities and role on the team.
