Hapoel Tel Aviv Signs Kadin Carrington Amid Tensions With Hapoel Jerusalem

During a turbulent summer in Israeli basketball, Kadin Carrington's move from Hapoel Jerusalem to Hapoel Tel Aviv has drawn significant attention. The interest from Hapoel Tel Aviv began months ago but only solidified this summer after contract terms were finalized. The turning point occurred on January 31, during the State Cup quarterfinals at Menora Mivtachim Arena, when Hapoel Tel Aviv's CEO, Ofer Yanai, was ejected from the game while observing Hapoel Jerusalem's bench. Yanai felt humiliated by the lack of support from Hapoel Jerusalem's management, including Matan Adelson, Dan Shamir, and Yonatan Alon, who did not back him during the incident.

Following the game, Yanai described the referees' decision as unlawful and filed a complaint with the district court. Feeling disrespected, Yanai contacted Carrington's agent, Dan Kartin, to express his intent to make an offer for Carrington in the summer, emphasizing the move as both a strategic acquisition and a statement against Hapoel Jerusalem. Despite Hapoel Jerusalem's desire to retain Carrington, their offer was reportedly about 50% less than Hapoel Tel Aviv's, estimated at just over one million dollars per season.

In addition, Yanai and coach Dimitris Itoudis publicly questioned Carrington's status as an Israeli league citizen player, a tactic believed to distract Hapoel Jerusalem from the transfer negotiations. With the signing complete, Carrington is expected to receive significant playing time in the EuroLeague, with Itoudis expressing confidence in his abilities and role on the team.
