Israeli Court Sentences Shi Blum to 10 Years for Shooting Adopted Son

The Lod District Court sentenced Shi Blum to 10 years in prison for shooting and killing his adopted son, Omri Blum, three years ago in July. Shi Blum admitted to the killing under circumstances of diminished responsibility as part of a plea deal. The incident occurred after Omri, 23, threatened Shi with a knife. According to the verdict, Shi fired nine shots at Omri's upper body and also stabbed him twice before calling the police to the scene.

Shi Blum was convicted of manslaughter with diminished responsibility. As part of the plea agreement, both parties requested a 10-year prison sentence. Additionally, Omri's biological mother will receive compensation of 50,000 shekels.

In a previous interview with "Ulpan Shishi," Shi's wife, Galia, described the events leading up to the shooting. She explained that Shi and Omri were talking when Omri refused to return to his hostel or take his medication, then suddenly threatened Shi with a knife. Shi, who is physically smaller and in poor health, feared for his life and responded by shooting Omri three times. Galia noted that Shi, a former elite soldier trained in counterterrorism, reacted instinctively like a trained fighter but does not remember the shooting. She also revealed that Shi has suffered from severe meningitis for six years, affecting his cognitive abilities and memory.
