5-Year-Old Girl Missing After Family Is Swept into the Sea in California

A 5-year-old girl is missing after a large wave swept her into the sea along with her mother and brother at Treasure Island Beach in Laguna Beach, California. The incident occurred in the evening as the family was walking on the beach, and during dangerous sea conditions the three were pulled into the water.

Bystanders rushed to help and managed to rescue the mother and her young son, but the girl disappeared among the waves. Two civilians who assisted in rescuing the mother and child were injured during the operation and evacuated to a local hospital. Their condition was described as stable.

Authorities said that stormy weather had prevailed in the area in recent days, creating dangerous sea conditions and strong rip currents. Rescue forces, including the Laguna Beach Marine Safety Unit, the Orange County Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard, launched extensive searches in the area. A day later, the operation shifted from a rescue mission to a body recovery operation.
