Police Shoot Dead Suspect Who Fired at Home in Northern Israel Village
Israeli police conducted an operational activity on the evening of the incident in the village of Sulam following a family dispute. Several police vehicles, including an officer from the Northern District and a fighter from the Border Police National Guard, were involved. During the operation, officers identified a suspect who had fired shots at a residential home. When the suspect attempted to flee, the police pursued him on foot. According to the police, the suspect continued firing at the officers during the chase, who returned fire and neutralized him. The suspect was taken to Emek Medical Center in Afula, where he was pronounced dead.
Initial investigations indicate that the shooting was related to an earlier incident that morning in the village, where a 64-year-old woman was shot. Following that event, five suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting and aiding the perpetrators. The police stated that the evening shooting targeted the homes of some of those arrested. Additionally, another individual was injured during the incident with injuries ranging from mild to moderate; the circumstances of this injury are under investigation.
The police also noted that this event is part of a series of seizures since the beginning of the week. In cooperation with Border Police fighters, more than ten weapons have been confiscated across the Northern District, and suspects have been arrested for illegal possession of firearms.
