Bare-Handed: Fisherman Filmed Wrestling an Unusual Catch
An experienced fisherman was stunned when he accidentally caught a 2-meter white shark, and after the catch he was filmed climbing onto the shark in an effort to remove the hook from its mouth.
According to the video published, Elliott Sodel caught the white shark off the southern shore of Nantucket, Massachusetts, during shore fishing. After realizing what had taken his line, he pulled the shark onto the beach in front of shocked onlookers, then climbed on it and tried to remove the hook from its mouth. Sodel said it was the first white shark he had caught after about 13 years of fishing in the area. “I’ve caught more than a thousand sharks over the years, but I wasn’t targeting a white shark, you can’t control what bites the bait,” he said.
He later added that the shark was in the surf zone, so he acted quickly to free it: “The shark was in shallow water, I removed the hook and released it back into the sea within 15 seconds.”
Speaking about the overall experience, he described it as a “amazing creature.” “It’s a privilege to get close to it, an experience I will never forget,” the fisherman concluded.
