Yair Golan Vows to Reform Policing and Oppose Netanyahu at Rahat Conference
At a conference held on Monday in Rahat, Knesset member Yair Golan announced his intention to become the next Minister of Public Security. He criticized current practices of demolishing homes as mere show operations and emphasized the need for a police force that the public respects. Golan called for a comprehensive plan involving education to prevent youth from turning to crime.
Golan highlighted his weekly commitment to engaging with the Arab community, stressing that it is unacceptable to marginalize 20% of Israel's population. He encouraged cooperation to develop the Negev and the country as a whole. Regarding the military service condition set by Benny Gantz for the next government, Golan said he supports universal service but believes it must be implemented gradually rather than as a strict prerequisite.
As chairman of the Democratic Party, Golan urged the public to vote in the upcoming elections, warning against any government attempts to undermine democratic processes. He described Israel as "a pariah state" in the eyes of the United States and accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of risking escalation in the West Bank. Golan condemned Netanyahu’s new strategy, which he described as a dangerous belief that bombing Iran would topple its regime, and claimed that Netanyahu removes anyone who does not support him from office.
Golan also noted that two Bedouin candidates are running in the Democratic Party primaries, reflecting his inclusive approach to politics.
