Gal Galili Extends Coaching Tenure with Maccabi Tel Aviv Volleyball for Eighth Season

Gal Galili will continue as head coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv's volleyball team for the 2026/2027 season, marking his eighth season with the club and seventh consecutive since 2020/2021. With this extension, Galili surpasses Uri Hever, who coached for seven seasons and led the team to three championships in the 1990s. The club's longest-serving coach remains Zohar Bar Netzer, who managed for 16 seasons and secured six championships and five national cups.

Under Galili's leadership, Maccabi Tel Aviv has won five championships and four national cups. Notably, in the 2022/2023 season, the team reached the European final for the first time in its history and in Israeli volleyball history. Asaf Lieber, chairman of Maccabi Tel Aviv volleyball, praised Galili as a cornerstone of the team, emphasizing his professional qualities and personal character, and expressed the shared goal of reclaiming the championship and national cup titles in the upcoming season.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will again compete in the CEV Challenge Cup, having participated in four of the last five seasons. Last season, the team had a remarkable European campaign with historic wins in Spain, Bulgaria, and a dramatic victory in France before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia. This season's tournament will feature over 50 teams from 30 countries, including top clubs like Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, and Dinamo Zagreb. Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Mate Asher/Akko will represent Israel. The draw for the matches is scheduled for the upcoming Wednesday in Luxembourg.
