12-Year-Old Mika Escapes Kidnapping Attempt in Rehovot, Police Investigate
Twelve-year-old Mika from Rehovot recounted how she narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt while walking home with a friend last Thursday evening around 9:30 PM. Mika noticed a car following them and moments later, a man inside the vehicle called out to them, urging Mika to get into the car and using abusive language when they refused. Realizing the danger, Mika instructed her friend to start recording the incident on her phone as they quickly fled toward home.
After reaching safety, Mika told her mother, Sarit, about the incident. Initially skeptical, Sarit was shocked after watching the video repeatedly to understand what had happened. The family shared the footage in local WhatsApp groups, prompting community members to search for the suspect. They also filed a police complaint, and authorities have detained a suspect for questioning as the investigation continues.
Sarit praised her daughter's quick thinking and presence of mind during the frightening event, emphasizing the seriousness of such incidents and the need for vigilance. She urged parents and children to learn from this case, especially since it occurred at night during summer vacation when children are often outside. Mika admitted she now feels anxious leaving the house and relies on family accompaniment. She hopes the suspect will be arrested and that no similar incidents will happen again.
The Israel Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the truth. The suspect remains in custody as the inquiry proceeds.
