MK Limor Son-Hermelech Holds Grandson’s Circumcision at Site of Husband’s Murder 23 Years Ago
On Tuesday, Member of Knesset Limor Son-Hermelech celebrated the circumcision of her grandson at the Malakhi HaShalom junction in the West Bank, the exact location where her husband, Shuli Hermelech, was murdered in a shooting attack 23 years ago. The ceremony took place at a memorial site dedicated to Shuli Hermelech, who was killed in 2003, while Limor was severely wounded and pregnant at the time. A special wooden deck was installed at the site the day before the event to mark the occasion.
During an interview with Channel 14, MK Son-Hermelech reflected on the personal and national significance of the event, recalling the terror attack and her emergency cesarean section three hours later to deliver her premature daughter, Sarah. She emphasized resilience, stating, "We will not surrender to them or be afraid of them," and described the ceremony as a true victory symbolizing life and continuity where violence once struck.
The newborn was named after his late grandfather, and the family expressed gratitude for the ability to return to the site of tragedy to celebrate new life. MK Son-Hermelech also linked the event to her parliamentary efforts advocating for the death penalty for terrorists, quoting Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s remarks that terrorists might reconsider their actions if they knew the consequences. She noted the transformation of the area, now inhabited by Jewish shepherds where wild animals once roamed.
The ceremony concluded with the family expressing thanks for the "salvation and redemption" they felt at the site, underscoring the deep emotional and symbolic meaning of holding the bris at the place of past tragedy.
