Hapoel Jerusalem football club has announced a unique sponsorship deal with the café "Cafe Basemta," which has recently become a symbol of the public struggle in Jerusalem for businesses to operate freely, including on Shabbat. The café's logo will appear on the players' shorts for the 2026/27 season, with no payment exchanged, highlighting the club's support for the cause.

The club stated that "Cafe Basemta" represents the fight for the right of Jerusalem businesses to choose their operating hours, emphasizing Hapoel Jerusalem's identity as more than just a football team but as part of the city's diverse and open fabric. Unlike other sponsors, the club did not require any financial compensation, only that the café continues its fight for a free Jerusalem by focusing on making good coffee every day of the week.

This sponsorship comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding business operations on Shabbat in Jerusalem.
