Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein Leads Special Prayer at Rabbi Elyashiv's Tomb on 14th Yahrzeit
On the 14th anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, a leading halachic authority and spiritual leader for the Jewish diaspora, a special prayer event took place at his tomb on Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem. The yahrzeit falls on the 28th of Tammuz. Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, the son-in-law of Rabbi Elyashiv and head of a distinguished rabbinical court, led the gathering of Torah scholars in heartfelt prayers and supplications for communal and individual salvation.
The event included the recitation of Psalms and fervent prayers aimed at opening the gates of mercy and seeking divine assistance for the Jewish people in times of distress. A particular focus was placed on honoring the donors to "Kupat Ha'Ir," who contributed funds in memory of Rabbi Elyashiv, specifically in the merit of his full name, Rabbi Yosef Shalom ben Rabbi Avraham.
Following the prayers, representatives of Kupat Ha'Ir presented lists of donors who gave 310 shekels each, corresponding to the gematria of Rabbi Elyashiv's name, to support impoverished families of Torah scholars. Rabbi Zilberstein and his rabbinical court recited each donor's name individually, offering special prayers for their welfare and salvation.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of special certificates by Rabbi Zilberstein and his court, attesting that prayers were offered on behalf of each donor at the holy tomb. These certificates, called "Shtar Maran HaGaon Rabbi Elyashiv," were given to the donors as a symbol of blessing and divine assistance.
This annual event serves both as a spiritual gathering and a charitable initiative, reinforcing the legacy of Rabbi Elyashiv and supporting needy Torah scholars through communal prayer and generosity.
