Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today, Thursday, at a special cabinet meeting held in Nof HaGalil, that the government is advancing a significant aid and development package for northern cities, with an emphasis on Galilee and core cities.

According to Netanyahu, “In a joint effort we are bringing a huge package to the core cities, Nof HaGalil, Akko, Karmiel, Safed, Afula, Nazareth and Tiberias. What we did in the south, we will do in the north, that is our vision.”

Netanyahu also referred to the security challenges in the north, led by the fighting against Hezbollah and the drone threat, and said that Israel is “hitting Hezbollah very hard” and is working to restore a sense of security to residents of the area. “First security, and then prosperity and infrastructure, in transportation, health, education and urban renewal,” the prime minister said. “We are working to give the local authorities the tools to lead development on the ground.”

Later in his remarks, Netanyahu stressed that the investments in the north will be made on a large scale, similar to programs already implemented in the south and the Golan Heights, and added that this is a “first-rate national mission.” At the end of the meeting, Netanyahu said he wants to be “the first passenger on the cable car from Nof HaGalil to Mount Tabor.”
