Israeli Cyber Unit Warns of New Bamba Snack Phishing Scam on WhatsApp
The National Cyber Directorate of Israel has issued a warning about a widespread phishing campaign circulating on WhatsApp groups, falsely claiming to offer a prize related to the popular Israeli snack Bamba. The scam message appears as a harmless short survey promising a 500-shekel reward, accompanied by familiar Bamba branding and fake testimonials from supposed winners to create a sense of legitimacy.
However, the campaign is a digital trap designed to steal sensitive personal information, credit card details, and potentially take over users' accounts. Clicking on survey options and submitting personal data can lead to financial theft and identity compromise.
The Cyber Directorate advises recipients to verify any such offers independently by visiting official company websites or verified social media pages, never to share personal or credit card information, and to avoid clicking on suspicious links. They also recommend blocking and reporting the sender and refraining from forwarding the message to others.
For any suspected cyber incidents or digital fraud, the public is encouraged to contact the National Cyber Assistance Center free of charge by dialing 119. This alert follows a continuing trend of impersonation scams targeting major Israeli brands online.
