Police Attacked During Arrest Amid Haredi Protests in Jerusalem
On Thursday, police officers from the Jerusalem district were attacked while arresting a suspect involved in a car break-in on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem. The incident began after a tip was received about a suspect breaking into a vehicle. Officers from the Lev HaBira station arrived, identified the suspect as a minor, and proceeded with the arrest. Following the arrest, around 200 Haredi protesters gathered at the scene near the Strings Bridge, blocking the entrance to Jerusalem and causing a disturbance.
The protesters assaulted the police by throwing stones and objects and attempted to forcibly take the suspect from the officers. As a result, one officer sustained minor injuries and required medical treatment, and a police vehicle was damaged. The police managed to restore order, and the suspect was taken to the Lev HaBira station for identification and investigation.
The police condemned the violent attack on officers, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. They stated that violent lawbreakers crossed a red line by attacking officers who were there to protect citizens and their property.
