Israeli Police Chief Orders Suspension Review After Officers Filmed Traffic Violations
Two female police officers from the Kfar Shalem station in Tel Aviv were filmed committing serious traffic violations while recording themselves. One officer was driving a police vehicle while holding a mobile phone and filming, and the other was riding an electric police bicycle without wearing a helmet, which is against the law. The video was posted on social media, drawing public attention and criticism.
The police chief, Danny Levi, responded firmly to the incident, emphasizing that such behavior contradicts the values of the Israel Police. He stated that any suspicion of inappropriate conduct would be thoroughly investigated and that disciplinary, administrative, and traffic-related measures would be taken as necessary. Levi highlighted the public's expectation for high standards of professionalism, responsibility, and personal example from police officers.
Following the video’s circulation, the chief instructed the relevant authorities to immediately initiate disciplinary proceedings, including considering suspending the two officers from operational duties until the investigation is complete. The incident also involved civilians who had received traffic fines from one of the officers and recorded the situation themselves.
This case underscores the police leadership's commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within the force, especially regarding officers' conduct in public and on duty.
