Israeli Authorities Charge Two in Northern Prostitution Ring Using TikTok for Recruitment
The Israeli State Prosecutor's Office filed serious charges against two northern residents, Rotem Garon, 38, from Kiryat Motzkin, and Sharon Marciano, 43, from Haifa, accusing them of operating a prostitution ring in the Krayot area for about three years. The indictment alleges they exploited women’s financial and psychological distress to recruit them via social media platforms, including TikTok.
According to the indictment submitted to the Haifa District Court by prosecutors Najo Suleiman and Louis Eyadat, the accused ran several apartments functioning as brothels, advertised sex services online and on social media, coordinated meetings with clients, and collected payments ranging from 350 to 2,000 shekels. Dozens of clients reportedly visited these locations daily. Women typically received only about 100 shekels per client, with the remainder going to the defendants.
The indictment details a case of a young woman who, after living with Garon, was coerced into prostitution, required to serve 10 to 15 clients daily, hand over her earnings, and report her activities. When she sought to quit, the defendants allegedly threatened her and demanded 30,000 shekels. The accused also recruited other vulnerable women, including a homeless young woman and another struggling with debt and drug addiction, subjecting them to pressure, threats, and fines.
In addition to human trafficking and prostitution-related offenses, the indictment accuses the defendants of tax offenses and money laundering. The ring reportedly earned at least 1.8 million shekels, which were not reported to tax authorities, with efforts made to conceal the funds’ origins and usage. Charges include aggravated human trafficking, pimping, managing a brothel, advertising prostitution, extortion, threats, obstruction of justice, tax offenses, and money laundering.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
