Six months after the launch of the BYD Atto 2 plug-in hybrid at 150,000 shekels, another discounted plug-in hybrid is arriving in Israel. Mechaniyot Tnu’a has begun marketing the Deepal S05 in a plug-in version, alongside the electric model.
The new version has a 1,500 cc gasoline engine that, together with an electric motor, produces 320 hp. Separately, the gasoline engine produces 86 hp and the electric motor 234 hp. The vehicle has an 18.4 kWh battery.
Walla Car road test: What did we think of the electric Deepal S05?
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8 seconds, and the top speed is 180 km/h. According to the manufacturer, the electric range is 100 km. Combined fuel consumption, with the battery charged, is an official 49.5 km per liter. Slow charging is at a rate of 11 kW and fast charging at 55 kW.
The dimensions are identical to those of the electric model, 4.62 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, 1.6 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.88 meters. The trunk has a volume of 552 liters, 60 liters more than the electric version, and among the largest in its class. In fact, it is a larger vehicle than the Jaecoo 7 plug-in hybrid, which has become the best-selling vehicle in Israel over the past two years and starts at 180,000 shekels.
The S05 plug-in hybrid comes in two trim levels. The base Pro, priced at 155,000 shekels, includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 15.4-inch central display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable front seats, rear-seat air conditioning vents, roof rails, an 8-speaker audio system, and synthetic leather upholstery. The better-equipped Max, priced at 165,000 shekels, adds wireless phone charging, a panoramic roof with an electric shade, heating and cooling for the front seats, and a powered tailgate.
Safety, 5 out of 5 stars in the European crash test, and all the usual systems including autonomous emergency braking in forward and reverse, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and lane departure prevention, automatic high beam, driver fatigue monitoring, and more. The warranty is 6 years or 150,000 km for the vehicle, and 8 years or 200,000 km for the battery.
Thanks to the generous benefit-in-kind tax break for plug-in hybrid vehicles, the Deepal S05 is taxed at a benefit value of just 2,600 shekels. The only cheaper plug-in hybrid currently on the market is the BYD Atto 2, which, as noted, costs 5,000 shekels less.
