Hamas Announces Gaza Government Resignation but Retains Control Through Interim Committee

Hamas declared the resignation of its Gaza Strip government on Monday, announcing the transfer of administrative control to a national committee. The move is officially framed as a step toward establishing a technocratic government. However, the change is largely symbolic, as Hamas is expected to maintain its grip on power during the transition.

According to a statement from Hamas's government communications office, the chairman of the emergency committee has resigned, and a technical and professional team will continue to provide services to Gaza's residents. Current government officials will serve as a temporary body until the transition is complete.

The interim government will be led by Abdel Hadi al-Agha, a senior Hamas figure and former director general of the Waqf and Holy Sites Ministry. This indicates that despite the announced government resignation, Hamas-affiliated personnel will continue to hold key positions and manage Gaza's affairs throughout the interim period.
