Police Arrest Scooter Rider After Dangerous Wrong-Way Chase on Highway 2
During a traffic enforcement operation on Highway 2, the National Motorcycle Patrol Unit (Central) identified a scooter rider exhibiting multiple safety violations. When officers signaled him to stop, the rider fled, driving recklessly against traffic and endangering other road users. During the chase, the suspect discarded a bag which was later found to contain various illegal drugs.
The scooter was previously banned from the road due to severe safety defects, and the vehicle's registration had expired. Further investigation revealed the rider was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. The suspect was apprehended in Herzliya and brought in for questioning by traffic examiners before being released under restrictive conditions.
The police emphasized that this arrest occurred amid a nationwide campaign called "Committed to Life," a joint initiative by the Traffic Department and the National Road Safety Authority aimed at reducing road fatalities. Additional traffic patrol units have been deployed across Israel as part of this program.
