Knife-Wielding Suspect Shot by Police in Bat Yam, Condition Critical
On Sunday, police officers in Bat Yam confronted a man armed with a knife who ran toward them on Hashkama Street. The officers opened fire to neutralize the suspect, who was seriously wounded and taken to Wolfson Hospital. The police stated the incident was criminal in nature.
This event follows a stabbing attempt last week in Lod, where a Border Police officer thwarted an attack by Sami Ahmad Jasus, 28, from Lod. Security footage showed the officer receiving a report of a suspicious man with a knife, then encountering the attacker who charged at him. After a struggle, the officer pushed the attacker away and shot him, preventing harm to security personnel.
Earlier that day, a citizen reported a suspicious individual near a school in Lod, prompting police deployment. When officers called for the suspect to stop, he fled until intercepted by Border Police fighters, where he attempted the stabbing attack. Investigations by police and Shin Bet continue, with the working assumption that the Lod incident was a terror attack aimed at security forces.
Authorities are examining all investigative leads regarding the Bat Yam and Lod events. The police have not reported any injuries among their personnel in either case.
