SpaceX’s massive public offering is reaching its peak, and tomorrow, Friday, Elon Musk is expected to break through the financial glass ceiling and become the first person in history with 13-digit wealth | How is the space and satellite company making him richer than entire countries, and what staggering amount will appear in his account tomorrow? The world of finance is holding its breath ahead of tomorrow, Friday, after months of anticipation. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is going public in what is expected to be the largest IPO in stock market history. According to reports, the company is aiming for a fantasy market valuation of 1.75 to 1.77 trillion dollars, with a single share priced at about 135 dollars. How does he do it? What is an IPO, anyway? Imagine Elon Musk’s SpaceX as a private club that very few people can enter. Until now, only large, very wealthy investors could hold a stake in the company. An offering, or IPO, is the moment when that club opens to the wider public.

Instead of a few partners, the company issues “ownership tickets” called shares, and anyone can buy a small piece of it through the stock exchange and become a tiny partner. At that point, the company also changes status, from a private company to a public company, and the market sets its current price according to supply and demand. It is important to understand that Musk’s wealth is not in cash or in a safe, but on paper only. It is derived from the value of the shares he holds in his companies. The key point is SpaceX. If the company goes public at an estimated valuation of about 1.75 to 1.77 trillion dollars, and Musk holds about 42 percent of it, roughly 4.8 billion shares, his share alone could reach about 688 billion dollars, according to an estimate based on a share price of around 135 dollars. Added to that are other holdings. In Tesla, where he holds about 12 percent, that amounts to another 176 billion dollars, along with additional options valued at about 122 billion dollars. The combination of all these components places him in the realm of these fantastical numbers.
So, what is the actual amount? On the eve of the offering, Musk’s wealth is estimated at about 813 to 825 billion dollars. The surge in SpaceX’s value as it becomes public tomorrow is expected to propel his personal fortune beyond the 1 trillion dollar mark (1,000,000,000,000$). In doing so, Musk will become the richest person ever to live, holding wealth greater than the national product of countries such as Sweden or South Africa. Tomorrow evening, the “club of four commas” will officially gain its first member.
