Elon Musk Becomes the First Trillionaire After SpaceX Lists on Wall Street
Business magnate Elon Musk became the first trillionaire in history on Friday evening after his company SpaceX made its debut on a U.S. stock exchange. In the company’s first major offering, the share price reached $150, about 11% above the initial price of $135.
SpaceX is now valued at about $2.12 trillion, making it the sixth-largest public company in the United States, behind giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. Musk’s stake in the company is estimated at about $690 billion.
At the end of last year, Time magazine named Musk one of its People of the Year as part of a group of influential figures in artificial intelligence. In a post on Time’s official X account, the magazine said the honorees were chosen “for ushering the world into the era of thinking machines, and for the awe and concern they have caused humanity,” adding that “the architects of AI are Time’s People of the Year for 2025.”
Alongside Musk, Time listed other prominent figures in the field, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI and ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman, and Meta and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
