Maccabi Tel Aviv Accelerates Talks to Sign Cypriot Defender Stelios Andreou
Maccabi Tel Aviv is intensifying negotiations to acquire Stelios Andreou, a prominent Cypriot central defender. The club is exploring options with Polish side Widzew Łódź for either a transfer or a loan deal with an option to buy. Andreou, who has made 120 appearances in the Belgian league for Charleroi, is valued at around two million euros according to Transfermarkt. He is currently under contract with Widzew Łódź until 2029, and other clubs have also shown interest in him.
The club aims to strengthen its defense with a player of significant potential, but securing Andreou will be challenging due to his experience and market value. Despite a recent decline in his Transfermarkt valuation, Andreou remains a sought-after defender across Europe. Last season, Maccabi Tel Aviv's most expensive signing was Kevin Andrade for 1.8 million euros, followed by Leo Varrella at 1.7 million and Ion Nicolescu at 1.3 million euros.
The club's management is aware that signing a defender of Andreou's caliber and age will require a substantial financial effort, reflecting their ambition to reinforce the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
