Maccabi Tel Aviv Intensifies Efforts to Sign Cyprus National Defender Stelios Andreou

Maccabi Tel Aviv is actively negotiating to acquire Stelios Andreou, a 24-year-old central defender from the Cyprus national team. The club is in contact with agents representing several candidates for the center-back position, potentially seeking more than one defender following the departure of Heitor to Újpest. Andreou could join Maccabi Tel Aviv either on loan with an option to buy or through an immediate transfer, with different financial terms for each option. Negotiations are ongoing with his current club, Widzew Łódź, a Polish team where Andreou is currently training during a camp in Austria.

If the transfer is completed, Andreou is expected to receive a higher salary than his current long-term contract in Poland. Maccabi Tel Aviv initially preferred a left-footed defender but may end up signing multiple players for the role. Andreou previously played four years for Belgian club Charleroi and was linked to Maccabi Tel Aviv about two years ago. He was purchased by Widzew Łódź last summer. Unlike many foreign players reluctant to move to Israel at this time, Andreou has given his preliminary consent to the transfer.
