Maccabi Tel Aviv have begun initial discussions over signing Stelios Andreou, the 23-year-old Cyprus national team defender. According to club sources, the Israeli champions have already carried out preliminary checks on the feasibility of bringing him in as they look to refresh their defense with a high-potential center back.
Andreou currently plays for Polish side Łódź and is under contract until 2029. He has 120 appearances in the Belgian league, most of them with Charleroi, and Transfermarkt values him at about 2 million euros. The report says that signing him would not be easy, because Maccabi would first have to buy him out of his current deal.
The article notes that several other clubs are also interested in Andreou, but that all parties understand the move would be expensive for a player of his age and résumé. His market value has dropped sharply over the past year, according to Transfermarkt, but he is still seen as a defender who could attract multiple suitors across Europe.
The report places the possible move in the context of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s recent transfer spending. Last season, the club’s most expensive signing was Kerwin Andrade for 1.8 million euros, followed by Helio Varela for 1.7 million and Yon Nikolasco for 1.3 million.
